Were you ever eating a banana and thought, wouldn’t it be nice if I could also use this tasty fruit as a communication device? Well now you can! A fresh start-up on Indiegogo has produced a phone that runs off of Bluetooth through your main smartphone, and yes, it looks exactly like a banana. Obviously it is very simplistic, no touchscreen or camera, no fingerprint sensor. Just 3 minimalistic buttons. You can also use your voice assistant on your main device to easily dial up a conversation for the banana phone.
It was thought up and created by three guys who used to be camping/canoeing outfitters in Canada, according to their story on Indiegogo. Their vision is “Talk More, Smile More, Save Gorillas”. Yes, 1% of all proceeds go to Gearing Up for Gorillas. This is a fund that provides equipment to rangers at Virunga National Park, in eastern DR Congo, that are working to preserve and protect the Mountain Gorilla Species there. Funding for this project first launched on May 1st on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. As of today they have raised about $20,000 of their $30,000 goal. You can order a single Banana Phone complete with charger and sticker set for only $40. Or they have options for bulk ordering, just in case you want to order a “bunch” for the whole office. They are estimating that September 2017 will be when they begin shipping product to all of their Indiegogo backers.
