The SmartCaptain App is actually a Lottery Pool App the helps “pool groups” manage all of their information in one place. It is really the first of it’s kind and a very savvy idea that is already taking off on Kickstarter. With only 18 days to go, their campaign has already reached it’s $5,900 goal and then some. They currently have 58 backers and are hoping to acquire more in the final weeks of their Kickstarter run. If you decide to become a backer, you will receive a discounted subscription to their “Lottery Pool Service” that apparently works in conjunction with the app itself. For certain backers they are also including freebies such as; money clips, “smart-pen”, “smart-ball”, and a “smart jackpot combo”.
Basically this app simplifies the lottery pool process and eliminates the human work and possibility for human error. You can take photos of your tickets, and allow the software to scan your numbers so that the app will automatically recognize winners, and exactly how much. It also will help to delegate earnings to the exact cent, so as to keep you from having to pull the calculator out and hope you get it right. This could prove handy in situations of large pools where a win may need to be split several different ways. After taking a photo of your tickets, the app allows users to easily share the photos as sort of a “proof of purchase”, via e-mail, sms, social media, etc. This is said to also encourage having a more social experience than you otherwise would. In the event that there is a winning ticket, the app apparently knows exactly who to notify within the pool and precisely how much the earnings will be. The company is called CrowdLotto. They are a start-up based in San Francisco and they are also donating 1% of all earnings to #YesWeCode, an initiative that enables under-represented young adults to get into the tech sector.
Here at Sharkatech, we think this is a perfect example of a start-up company finding a specific niche that is very popular and remedying it with solutions and innovation. SmartCaptain may not change the tech world as we know it, but it might just change the lottery pool game as we know it, and that is all that matters. That is what makes a start-up successful. We are watching this campaign and will keep you informed of future updates. It appears that they are set to begin rolling out the app at the end of 2017.
